Program Details

North Central Housing Authority offers numerous housing assistance programs across Griggs, Steele, Nelson, Towner, Ramsey, Cavalier and Rolette Counties.
Currently there are two Programs offered by NCHA Public Housing and Section 8 Voucher Program.

Public Housing Program
Public Housing was established to provide decent & safe rental housing for eligible low & moderate income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

Public housing comes in all sizes and types from scattered duplex to high-rise apartments for elderly families. These units are owned and operated by the North Central Housing Authority (NCHA). Rent in these units is set for each family based on their anticipated annual adjusted income. All utilities are included in the rent.

Section 8 Voucher Program
The Section 8 Program allows low-income families the opportunity to rent safe, decent and sanitary privately owned dwelling units. Subsidy payments are made by the Housing Authority to the owners on behalf of the family rather than directly to the family.

The program was created by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and is funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

How the Programs Work
Because there are more families who need program assistance than there are available apartments or vouchers available, NCHA uses a waiting list to administer the program to eligible families. When apartment or a voucher becomes available, the next family at the top of the waiting list is contacted to go over process details.
